Cheers,
Mark.

The purpose of the evening is to bring together folks involved with community development to discuss best practices, common pitfalls, emerging tools etc. for using digital and social media to promote their particular cause. From grassroots campaig...
A place, both physically and virtually, for forming relationships and holding discussion. People of all disciplines come together to learn from each other and gain inspiration in a social environment. The resulting fringe benefits are innumerable.
I run a networking group called Florida Creatives - we have a happy hour every third Monday of the month in downtown Orlando. On the Florida Creatives site, we provide web space for any local group to get organized, post events, have a discussion, and find some friends.
We're trying to become more a part of our industry community. We're in the process of changing direction (a bit) and are trying to determine next steps.
Thanks for the add. And thank you for connecting us with the Drupal developers. Hopefully they can help us out. I was also hoping you could help us reach out to some app developers about our upcoming app showcase. It has the potential to be an amazing event with the right mix of developers presenting.
Do you think you could help spread the word about registering? http://appshowcase.eventbrite.com/
Hello Ryan,
Well, sorry to say I can't help you out on that numbers game since I've been a FL Creative member for 9 weeks, 1 day (how nice of the site to count that for me).
On another note, I hear you and the guys at Bonnier are the Drupal demons - how'd the training go?
I'm very excited to roll-out our more expansive web presence including more about us, tools for members and real value - in addition to the off line events we are planning. I'll have a better idea on timing of all of those items very soon and will be sure to keep the community apprised.
The one thing I think we can all agree on is that there is a strong community in Central Florida and a lot of active participation by various opinion leaders. The quick following we've seen on the Ning community site has supported that argument and in my opinion, is also simply giving us a brief taste of what's to come. It's very exciting!
(1) We chose ning because it's the most flexible & open platform out there. Facebook is not. period.
I respect your opinion if you feel different.
(2) The decision to use ning did not come from "Ted and Tara". I've been beta testing ning groups at work and Ted had actually used it successfully for the IZEA party - so we both thought it would be useful to keep the conversation going between board meetings. I never thought we'd have 200 plus members after 45 days.
Sounds like you need to take your own advice and start reading other local blogs and engaging with them - see my comments specifically in Alex's blog and Lawrence's blog.
(3) Before you start using phrases like "...spamming all the comments and activity streams..." please give me some examples specifically of what you mean so I can address them.
I actually take offense to remarks like this.
(4) Your feedback is always welcome and I urge you to contact one of us at any time if you have any questions.
I don't know if you're late to the party, but I've sent you invitations before to "engage" in the doterati conversation and never gotten a response.
Heck, I guess I even "spammed" you on twitter.
Cheers,
Mark.
FYI: I'm also going to move that focus group from next Monday to Wednesday. I apologize, I forgot you have a happy hour on the 16th. You're still invited if you want to participate.
